[Edit]: Yeah, I totally reworked this thing so that it'd fit the 1024x768 requirement for my portfolio. So, if you want to use it as a wallpaper, be my guest. (Use the Download link) I'm not sure if I like this version better, but at least I can use this piece.
Hanyuu no yado mo waga yado,
Tama no yosoi, urayamaji.
Nodokanari ya, haru no sora,
Hana wa aruji, tori wa tomo.
O, waga yado yo,
Tanoshi tomo, tanomoshiya.

Mid pleasures and palaces though we may room,
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home.
A charm from the skies seems to hallow us there,
Which, seek thro' the world, is ne'er met with
elsewhere.
Home, home, sweet, sweet home
There's no place like home, there's no place like
home
~"Home Sweet Home"
A tribute to my favorite WWII movie, The Burmese Harp, and a tribute to the Japanese soldiers of WWII. It's a beautiful movie and I recommend it to anyone.
This piece has many meanings to me. So, I would rather it if you kept criticisms to yourselves for just this one.
Wow, this one really surprised me. It feels like a whole different level of work from you. It's really expressive and has great textures and shading and stuff. What a wonderful tribute. =]
I read 'Harp of Burma' last year on recommendation from a friend...This art really captures the feeling of the book.
Did you know that the movie was not released in the US for some time because they didn't wan't Americans to feel pity for the 'Asian' enemy, during the Korean War? They thought that if people watched the movie, and saw that the Japanese were human too, then people would be less willing to fight. I think the movie got an Oscar for best foreign film much later on though...
Ooh, I want to check out the book. I love heartwrenching WWII stories.
Wow, I didn't know about the delay of the release in the US. That's very fascinating. But not too surprising because I heard they did that with a lot of Japanese films. I think The Burmese Harp got nominated for best foreign film language, but it didn't win. I did know it got an award in a Western country somewhere...
I want to see the 1985 color remake of the film... I wonder if it's available anywhere.
What the hell, I accidently commented here instead of commenting on your journal about going to Japan.
Anyway, that's awesome! I heard that the remake wasn't as good as the original, but I really want to see how it is... I suppose I'll have to scour Japan for a copy.
